no luck, the best they can do is mount one next to the oem alternator. if your factory warranty is up, i would say go for it. but if your still under warranty, wait it out. im looking to add 2 optima yellow tops, i have some on here helping with mounting one in the oem compartment, and i will add the second one, on the rear right panel, behind the fuse/relay box theres space there, with these too, you should be fine. i done a test run, and no dimming. different story with oem battery. lol... good luck, and ill post battery upgrade too later...

So how long did you drive with the bearing making noise? In general that a very reliable alternator.

Ok, I guess I'll just start by swapping out the oem with a yellow top and work from there. I'm putting a sub in the right and left panel locations (building out to 1.25 cu ft per side) so I think I'll have to put the second battery in the spare tire well if I ever add one.

Thanks

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but my 4.6is did this last night. The bearing made noise for about 20-25 seconds (I tried to pull over ASAP, but there was traffic to contend with). Once I got to a stop, it seized altogether and the engine stalled, and the cabin started to smell like burnt rubber (prob from the slipping belts).

I know most of the diehard BMW folks will gringe at this but..... I replaced my alt with a bosh rebuild from ORiley's cost $135.00 it's been it for 8 months now no problems. When they looked it up there were others in the cat. Now I got it cheaper because my Buds the manager.
