More than likely the lower control arms. From what I understand it's a common problem. Mine was doing the exact same thing. Very easy DIY! http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...trol-arms.html

Hope this helps!

I would first try a very careful wheel balance, eg done on a Hunter by a pro, like the one in the link:
http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/ba...159T/index.htm

If your front tires are fairly worn, that is not helping either. I think the older Xs get the more sensitive
they are to wheel shimmy via worn front tires and wheel bal. that is not as effective, vis a vis the tire
wear, as it was when new.

For not much money, I'd try wheel bal.first, before I let someone sell me new front end components.

What about ABS? Does it only occur when you first apply the brakes, and does the shaking reduce in frequency as you slow down? IMHO, the ideas about LCA and tire balance are great places to start.

abs is a pulsation felt in the brake pedal... it only comes on when the computer thinks it needs to.. usually during the entire braking session until you lift off the brakes or change your pressure on the pedal (modulation).

Sounds like the ABS. if your slowing down from 90 or 80 its probably that
