Stall On Startup

Trying to figure out what is up with my X. On startup she does start then can't hold the idle and dies. Was running perfectly in the last few weeks. Once I get her up and running w/ a lil tap of the gas pedal she will hold an idle and then runs well... no stalls not even at stop lights. Kind of odd. I am wondering if it is an O2 sensor or maybe a clogged fuel filter??

I'd start by checking for vacuum leaks, then check ignition coils and MAF.

I had the EXACT same problem with my '01 3.0 last week after sitting for a week; SES light came on and code scanner showed a P0102 MAF or VAF Circuit Low Input. After it finally fired for good, it ran fine and has for the last week and a half with no problems at all (I had actually forgotten about it until I saw this thread). Dealer said something might have stuck upon starting, and that the engine killed itself to keep from damaging something. After having the codes read and the SES light reset, everything has been fine with no recurring SES light. Dealer also said that if it were indeed the MAF sensor or something related to the emissions system, then I would be having other symptoms of a failure and NOT just this one incident; he said that it wouldn't have corrected itself (and the SES light would reappear). Seeing as how my X5 is running fine with no other issues at all, I'm calling this a fluke and I'm thinking your situation is the same. I hope this comforts you a bit. This happened once before on my former SUV (2003 Ford Expedition) and it NEVER happened again in the subsequent 2 1/2 years that I owned it. Let me know what you think. I use a good BMW dealer in Atlanta, by the way, so I'm sure the tech knew what he was talking about.

Ty for the replys. I am going to go through another tank of gas and see how it goes. If the problem persists it will be off the the dealer for some Rx.
