I had one installed in Melbourne by a dealer here for Tunit and he did the install in 5 mins. I have had it set on 8 out of 10 for 4000kms now with less black smoke than before and simply stunning power delivery especially up hills. Best money i have spent on her to date. I believe if you disconnect the battery and press the brake you will reset all computers in the car you then take her out for a quick fang and it will re learn your driving patterns. My next mod will have to be air intake as i think its starving for air under hard accelleration as it occassionally whistles.

Chip it sooner than later but i think the best way is to use a plug n play chip so you can return it to factory setup easily.

Good luck

Wow thanks for all replies ! I finally have my X5. I get the license plates tomorrow, and i cant wait.

Melb44: did the black smoke stop by itself ?

I was planning on waiting a prudential break-in period (maybe 500 km?) before the mod. Any suggetions on this ?

A running-in period of 500km or more is recommended. If you get the Tunit Box type chip, setting 6-8 is fine for power without the smoke. You will notice more soot build up around the back bumper but that's the only negative. The down stream from ECU type is the best for easy removal and reliability. Happy X-ing.

low end torque is very addictive you should be happy with it for a while b4 u start modfying it. its a doodle to overtake cars on the the highway! the auto always puts you in the peak torque rev range when u put the foot down! best part is less visits to the fuel stations.

Propane injection! Works like NO in a gas powered vehicle.
