It would make a difference if your fuel system was dirty. If you use good quality gas, with sufficient additives to keep the fuel system clean, it is not likely to be necessary. If you have drivability problems (stumbling, etc) then a can of cleaner can sometimes help. I would use Techron, myself, in that instance.

Fuel system cleaner isn't going to help if you don't have a problem to fix, it isn't like an elixir that is going to give you more power or fuel economy.

I used fuel system cleaners and oil system cleaners before oil change on my BMW E39 never had any problems. Drove it over 300.000 and engine looked like new, no leaks no knocking, run like new.
It does not matter if you use purest fuel in world it leaves trails when it burns that is why you need system cleaner. And for oil is same. I used this great product from Liqui Molly...you put it in to engine before you change oil. let it run 20 min and than drain it. It cleans all that burning traces and thick oil mud looking thing from engine. It was dirty every time...and i used always full synthetic quality oil in that engine.
But i never tried Octane boosters, i use 95 or 98 when i find it. Few times i tried 100 Octane Fuel but did not see any difference!

maybe is not an magic elixir and it can not fix engine problems when it gets so f** up that you experience problems and lack of performance for sure! But it helps keep your engine clean and prolong engine life for sure.

If you are not using Chevron, or have no Chevron dealers near you, I would suggest you try adding Techron additive to a couple tankfulls and see if you get better mileage and throttle response - I can atest to getting 10%+ better hwy mpg with Chevron than with Dhell or Conoco
