Howdy from Dallas, TX. I'm posting for my mechanically un-inclined SIL, who has an '02 X5 3.0 with a manual transmission. Let me preface this first post by saying the idiots at the stealership in San Antonio, TX (where SIL lives) are clueless when it comes to her car. When the car was still covered under warranty, they would come up with any excuse possible to bleed her pocketbook dry, using the excuse that because the car was delivered overseas while they were stationed in Italy, repairs that would normally be covered under either the bumper to bumper or extended warranties simply aren't.
I'm attempting to diagnose her problems from 400 miles away over the phone. She's got a knowledgable independent mechanic, but he doesn't have access to a good quality repair manual with decent pictures. I'm paraphrasing my SIL's comments here..."The brake lining light came on, and the car is making squealing noises when I stop. Once up on the lift, the mechanic noticed some problems with the axle."
Now I personally don't know if it has something to do with the CV joints or not, and the mechanic wants to take a look at some reputable manuals before he digs in any further.
Can anyone recommend a good manual that might have a good diagram of axle parts? I'm hoping I can get her to take pictures this week of the problem areas, so I can post 'em. Anyone got a good source for OEM parts online?
Thanks, guys.
Scott
