Unhappy Winter shoes

When is it time change back to my winter set up? I was thinking about waiting out the weather and changing when it snows so I could play with the Diamaris a little longer. I'm pretty sure I read that compounds used in all seasons and summer tires are different to react/perform with the different temperatures. Is it bad to leave on summer tires?

I need to move south.

This would be an appropriate time.

Just remember, L, when your street looks like this, I'll be playing golf.

Good morning, Laura... I'm going to do you a favor and cancel winter this year so you can keep your summer tires on...

I actually read somewhere that the Diamaris tires begin to harden at 40 degrees.

Mine usually go on around Thanksgiving or early December. I wait as long as possible because I hate taking the 20s off.

The rubber in a performance tire will start to harden at 44.5 farenheit, or 7 degrees celsius. Once your temperatures are in that area it's a good idea to change sooner rather than later. Conversely, in the spring once your temperatures are over 44.5 you should switch back to the Diamaris because the rubber in the winter tires becomes too plyable and will greatly increase the wear on them.

Thanks all. I don't want to change my tires. I don't want to change the clocks. I don't want summer to end.

Agreed. Even though the snow really won't be flying until November or December, I switch to winter rubber on both my rides in mid-October as the temps start to fall. The Michelin Diamaris and Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires I run in the summer are SCARY in colder temps...not worth the risk.
