2006 X5 3.0i first oil change question

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the great info provided here at the site and forums. I've recently completed my first oil change at 5k miles. Went with Mobile 1 syn using the oil change kit from my local dealer. I followed the DIY found on the main page and find that I have a leak.

I did 18 fpt on the oil drain plug and the oil filter but found that I had a small oil slick in the garage. I've tightened the drain plug a couple more times without the torque wrench and it's still leaking just a little bit.

One thing I did notice was that I didn't find a crush washer when I first removed the drain plug. Did they drop the use of the crush washer in 06? I'm afraid that I might strip the drain plug if I keep tighting it. I did put the crush washer on from the kit.

Help?
Thanks!!!!!
