Funky Navigation System Problem

Weird situation occurred where screen started flickering between map and black screen, then the unit started opening and closing very erratically while the flickering continued. The radio would still work on the station tuned and I could adjust volume on both steering controls and knob on nav unit. Turned the X5 off and the unit continued opening and closing. Pulled the two fuses that control the unit (fuses # 73 and 75 in the right rear fuse block) for 5 minutes, put them back in, started up and everything has been okay so far.

I have the MkIII navigation system that I upgraded from V17 to V22 about 2 months ago and had not had any issues after the upgrade.

Anyone experience anything similar or have any ideas. My only thought is that the fuse removal was acting like a reboot to clear some software/electronic confusion or the fuses may not have been completely seated??

Thanks in advance for any ideas or thoughts.

Happened to me as well did not seem to matter what I did it carried on for the whole journey of about 40 miles. I left it for 20 mins and it carried on with the problem. Sometimes I saw a fleeting message saying it was too hot. I then left it over night and it has not happened since!!! that was a couple of months ago. THe day was very hot and it had ben parked in the sun all day but I am sure it has been hotter but not had the problem. This was with a mkIV system.

It was wierd but I did have a passenger witness who also tried to press every single button and tried doing anything he could think of with the display. He thought it was hilarious. I will ask the dealer at service time but because it hasn't reoccured I am sure I know his response?

I am pleased to hear someone else with the problem cos I thought I was going mad.

John

Thanks for reply John. I forgot to mention that I also got the message about screen being too hot flash on the screen.

I am out of warranty now and have my service carried out at an independant who didn't have any idea what could be the cause. I'll be interested in what the dealer tells you...but suspect like you, they won't have much to help.

Good luck and please let me know what they tell you.
