Help!! Burning smell

I have a 2002 x5 3.0i. There is this stale, musty burning smell that seems to fill the car when i run my ac and even when the ac is off and the windows are open. I have tried different types of air freshners, but the smell keeps coming back. I am not sure what i can do and if I should call the dealership and have them look at the car. Any suggestions of advice is greatly appreciated!!

I think the ac smell is quite a common thing. I have read before where people have been getting bad smell through there on other BMW's aswell.

No there is nothing sticking to the bottom of the car, I just had cleaned it. I was thinking that maybe the allergy filter needed to be changed. Could this be my problem??

It is worth a try. Also, you could spray some disinfectants in that area as well (where the microfilter sits)

The musty odor from the AC seems to be a prominent problem on many BMWs.

A temporary fix I tried once was to run the heat full blast on recirc for about 20min, then return it to normal operation. It got rid of the smell for awhile.
