Mintex vs. Axxis Brake Pads

I just finished swapping out the stock pads on my 4.8 for the Axxis Deluxe pads. Now I can really skip washing my wheels every few days! On my previous 4.4, I used the Mintex Red Box pads, and they were okay. But they still dusted almost as bad as the stock pads (maybe half as much), and they made the occasional sqeal and groan. The Axxis pads appear to throw out much less dust than the Mintex, and are really quiet too. I didn't change rotors as they are only about 1 month old. Overall stopping power is about the same as before. Now that I have used both types of pads, I would definitely recommend the Axxis brand if you really want a very low dust and quiet pad. Just my $0.02.

Axxis Pads

I was looking at Axxis pads as a dust brake solution. I currently have stock brakes and rotors. Thanks for the info.

Just fitted Bendix Ultimates (that's what Axxis are called in Oz where they are made) but haven't had a chance to wash the car yet to compare them with the standard pads re-dust but they seem to perform well!

Do you have them on the front or rear? I have them on the rear of my 4.6, but I couldn't find any for the front. I'm still running OEM, but as soon as the fronts go, I'll be hunting for them again. These pads are great!!!....Phil

I got my fronts and rears from Zeckhausen. They shipped them to me in less than 2 days. The item description on thier website states that they fit 4.8 and 4.6 models (they both have the larger twin piston front calipers). I assume that's for all years, but not positive. If you are only running the rear set now, you are really missing out on the benefits of the Axxis pads. Even with the stock pads, the rear brakes don't dust nearly as bad as the fronts. Change out the front ASAP. You won't believe the difference.

They are a ceramic, and they cost me $70 for the front and $35 for the rear. I did the install myself with some basic hand tools in about 2 hrs. in my garage.

I just did the Axxis Deluxe plus pads this weekend. Dust difference is night and day. Stopping distance is about the same, but I haven't pushed it hard.

Woo-hoo!! DaveZ had said that Axxis were working on the 4.6/4.8 front application. So it finally happened! I never got around to installing the replacement pads that EBC had sent me (gaudy green pad backers and all), so I will hold out for the proven solution. Got an email into DaveZ today!

FWIW, I ran both Mintex Red Box and Axxis Deluxe Plus on my prior E39 M5 and E38 740i Sport, and loved them both for low(er than stock) dust properties and braking performance on par with OE. The Axxis did seem just a little bit superior to the Mintex on dust-less (-than-stock) performance.

So glad we now have multiple options for front pads for the 4.6/4.8.

Thanks for the post!!
-Dave

Been using Axxis with slotted/cross-drilled rotors for about a year now. Almost dustless! What a joy to lose wheel washing.
