4MoJo is right its easy to scratch the bumper cover. I tried to be careful but ended up with a couple of scratches. Steve

Did mine last weekend. I got an aftermarket square hitch type as the OEM cost is $1740 fitted in Australia. BMW say 2.5 hours to fit.
Anyway I got mine from Queensland tow bars (aka Tow master) also available from ARB 4x4 accessories if you live down under  . Took me 4.5 hours to fit, having never removed anything off my X5 before so I had to workout a few things along the way.I only tow a small off-road trailer 6x4 foot, maybe 2 twice a year....the extra $1300 odd was better off in my pocket. BTW my tow bar came with full instructions and all the hardware.
