Winter Tire Question

Hey,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have an '05 4.8is. Have had it for 10 months. It makes going to work enjoyable everyday. My question is about winter tires. I'm in Cincinnati, fairly mild winter, but know I should have a winter tire set up. Would the Toyo Proxes (sp?) be adequate. It is rated as an all-season, M+S, tire. I would like to keep the stock look of the wheels, but would put them on replicas.

THanks,

I have learned a lot reading this forum.

David

I can't help you with the Toyo question, I use 18" Pirelli Scorpion Snow & Ice for my winter set (mild winters here with a few trips to the mountains each winter). What size replicas were you thinking? Your comment, "would like to keep the stock look", makes me think you are going to go with 20's.

I wouldn't recommend anything bigger than 18's for winter tires, but I'm not sure 18's will clear the brakes on a 4.8 - I'm sure some other 4.8 owners can help with that one. If you're going to get a winter set, I'd recommend going winter, and not all seasons...

Okay

Yeah, would like to keep the look of the 20's. But suspected no the best option. Have read about other members running 18's. Tire rack lists 18 and 19's as compatable with 4.8.

Thanks for replies.

I run 18inch 69's with 265/55 Dunlop Wintersports on my 4.6, however, my friend runs 275/40/20 Pirelli Ice&Snows all the way around on his 4.8. We live in Denver and he takes his 4.8is to Vail every weekend in the winter and has had no problems in the snow.

Smile Thanks

Have seen 20's/Ice and Snow combo on tire rack. Will probably go with it. Does he use a spacer for the rears.

No, he doesn't use spacers and you don't need to. It looks good. I wish I had them. He said that the Pirelli's in that size go quick because they don't make a whole lot of them. Good Luck.
