Floppy mirrors can they be tightened

Some knucklehead bent both of my exterior mirrors so they were pinned against the front door windows. Now when I put the mirrors back in their normal position, they are loose and gradually move back into the car.

Is there a way to tighten these? There is not visible sign of damage.

Thanks

I believe there's a round plastic cap under the mirror. You can pop it out using a small flat screwdriver. This will expose a bolt which you can re-tighten to firm up the mirrors again. Incidentally, do you have the electric folding mirrors?

Thanks! I have the manual (non-electric) mirrors (06 X5).

If you're referring to the electric folding mirrors option then the answer is yes. It provides a small square button right next to the power window buttons. When pressed, the side mirrors fold in and out of the way. When pressed again, they fold out.

Gee I wish mine ('06) would have come with that option... the Architect that designed my house must have been on amphetamines when he designed the garage; the openings are so damn narrow that I'm forced to fold the driver's side mirror every time I drive the car into the garage....

Funny, now that I mentioned this; I realize I actually fold my mirror inwards at least 2 to 4 times per day (whenever entering and leaving my garage); and so far (6 months later) the mirrors are just as tight as new.

Hard to believe an 06' with no electric mirrors.

No Electrically FOLDING mirrors. The mirrors themselves are Of Course, electrically adjustable. The fact is that BMW's options program varies widely from Country to Country. For example, my (Manufactured-in-March-2006) 3.0d X5 came with many options, but with no auto-lamps or rain-sensor; a miserable 130€ optional item that was overlooked at the time the options list was filled. This, inspite of the fact that I dished out the equivalent of 93,500 USD for the car here in Portugal.
