will a 04 x5 transfer case fit in my 01?

i realllllly hope to god so, i found one site that sells the transfer case and claims to fit all years of model, they have different part #'s but most bmw parts do and they still all are the same, damn it makes it hard, guess thats the point huh?

If your X5 is a 3.0i, yes...otherwise not.

After some research:

There are two models of transfer cases used in the X5. All models use Type 1, except the 2004+ 4.4i and 2004+ 6spd manual..they use Type 2.

That's a parts catalogging error, if you look under the 3.0i. It lists the new 4.4i/6spd along with the correct one.
