Help..shift knob removal

I've done several searches...one says there is an allen screw, (don't see one) another says just pull up (pulled and pulled, no movement). I've removed the boot, how is that held to the knob itself? Does that coller screw in? I'm stumped so any help is appreciated. I don't want to break it. Thanks

There are no screws or anything. Pull the hand brake, put the car in neutral so the gear knob is in the center, turn off the ignition...and jerk it straight up with a sudden jerk. Do NOT twist it sideways or try to wiggle it out. You will just make it loose and permanently damage it that way.

OK, I'll try it...just afraid I'll break something. How does the boot attach?

The shift boot is not attached to the gear knob! and it also just pulls out of the gear shift surround. infact that whole unit just lifts straight out.

The boot is attached to the bottom of the knob, otherwise it would just slide down. It appears to have a circlip or something attaching it to the bottom of the knob..clearly something holds it in place.

I had it appart, the bottom of the sift boot removed, and trust me, it's attached. It has to be, otherwise where the boot and the bottom of the knob meet the boot would just slide down exposing the metal shaft. Sorry but what you are telling me makes no sense to me.

Believe me its not attached to the gear knob! I had mine out last week. The reason why the boot sits up is because around the gear shaft is a circle/washer the sits slightly wider that the shaft itself. Its this that makes the boot sit up but, the boot itself is not attached to anything! If you remove the gear knob the boot will lift straight out!

Yeah no problem! It is quite a tight fit and you need plenty of pulling power to get it off but well done! I take it your changing the Gear Knob to a different one?
