Electrical Issues.... Please Help!!

I was silly enough to have run down my battery by leaving the lights on!

I got the car started again by having a jump start. All was good until I realised that my sat nav monitor, radio, etc was not working along with my side indicator lights all round.

If I hit the hazard light button, this flashes but the indicators do nothing.

Any ideas what may have happened?

This feels like its gonna be expensive, so before I take it to the dealership I wanted to know if anyone knows what the possible cause is.

Thanks in advance!

It is known that when you jump start an X5, things like the nav monitor may be blank, radio may not come on, date on the OBC may be erased, etc. After you charge the battery, the nav screen and radio should come back on their own at the next restart. One time, I had to disconnect/reconnect the main connector from the nav computer to get the screen to come back on. Check your fuses if things do not work after the battery is charged. Fuses are much cheaper than repairs!

I've only ran her for 30 mins since the jump start.

I did check the fuses and they all looked good.

I thought it was very strange about the indicators not working. Hopefully what you are saying is correct and things will rectify themselves over a short period of time. Thanks for the advice.

I ran my battery down just two weekends ago while I was testing my sub and amp that I re-wired. I had to jump it off to get it to start but there was enough battery juice to run the lights and dash stuff, just not enough to turn the starter. My nav screen was blank the rest of the day. The next morning, it was all perfect. That has happened at least twice. Let us know how it goes.

I will be out and about tomorrow, so I will let you know what happens. My fingers will be firmly crossed.

Take care and thanks again.

Try what is known as a universal reset!! What you do is disconnect the battery at the rear, only take off the negative (black) terminal wrap it in a cloth so it doesnt touch any metal. Leave the battery disconnected for 15mins then reconnect and hopefully the system will have reset itself and Nav will fire up.

You would think that a $70,000 vehicle would have some sort of system to switch off the lights automatically! I left my trunk latch open slightly once because I didn't slam it shut...next morning it didn't start! It's a stupid oversight by the designers/engineers that drives me crazy I'm sure they could come up with something to fix that if they wanted to...I sure hope the E70 doesn't die because someone left the lights on!

On my X5 if I leave a door or trunk open the lights stay on for about 15mins then they are automatically switched off to save the battery. It also explains this in the hand book. Have a llok KING!!
