It's actually really obvious........to me. And it should be to you also. In most driving, assume you'll be in the most economical (in D) or normal sport mode (in SD). The easiest surefire way to get a feel what the more aggressive modes are like, find a good stretch of open road. Then in D or SD, floor it (kickdown) for like.....quite a while and drive it as aggressive as you possibly can. I notice that if you've really held down for max accel long enough (in my case, 0-80mph), it changes shift maps and begins to hold the gear, refusing to upshift. A combination of that and repeated hard cornering will also do the trick. I remember doing my own max accel test in the X3, and when I let off at 95mph, the transmission did not upshift to 5th, instead holding 4th @ 4750rpm even if I was totally off the gas pedal.

Disclaimer: Do not attempt on your average road...........you're either gonna get in trouble or hit someone else. Always wear your seat belt.
