Here is the what the Washington post had to say about the new X5.

I read that article this morning, not sure where the writer gets off saying the current X5 and X3 have a harsh ride. Though he doesn't come right out and say that he discusses how much better the new X5 is. Considering I don't feel a vibration in my X5 all the way up to 130mph....can't imagine the new X5 can feel better. IMO of course.

Umm...isn't the picture wrong? That's a 2004-06 facelift model and not the 2007 model with 3rd row seating....

Why do Americans carp about BMW's ride? I really hate to say this, but Americans are all about acres of wood, wide cushy leather seats, lots of straight line speed, and good cupholders. That's nothing to be proud of. Honestly I can see why cars like the Lexus LS460 are described by Europeans as "everything an American would want". Unfortunately, BMW also realizes they need to make their cars more "American" in order to sell well, so they're compromising a bit what made it so special earlier on.

Case in point: after driving the 328i coupe and X3 3.0si (non-sport), we felt the suspension was too soft. My dad said on the track, the non-sport X3 would actually bob one or two more times after a hard turn because the suspension didnt take a firm set (the sport model was marginally better). He also said our '04 felt more glued to the road and the suspension was firmer and hugged the corner better. And I know the 07 doesnt sound quite as nice as our 04. All of a sudden, our 2004 X3 seems like quite the performance vehicle.
