I know the stock 4.8 exhaust is not cheap. Over a grand? I have a 2002 4.6 and think the sound of the stock exhaust is quite lame. I do not understand spending quite a lot of money on a stock exhaust system for a minimal sound increase over the stock 4.4 exhaust.
I know you had posted to get others opinions of what system to get for your 4.4. Why did you decide to go with the stock 4.8 system? The Supersprint for $400 or so more seems a better choice for a performance exhaust system. (Not trying to be a pain in the a$$! Just trying to help!) |

The other day I was looking for Eisenhaus mufflers for my 4.6is and the price seems to be over $2k.
Can't help comparing the price to my new Mustang. I can get nice stainless steel mufflers for it starting from $250. In both cases I get 2 mufflers and few feet of pipe. If I got close to that price nice mufflers for my X, I'd go for it. So haven't bought anything...yet. What I've heard, 4.8 exhaust is just perfect, a lot better than stock 4.6. I think Supersrpint is too loud, for me anyway. But, if you can get a stock 4.8 exhaust for around $1k, hmm..... |

Supersprint for $400? I'm not interested in changing my exhaust but that's a good price. Who sells them for that price?

He meant 400 more than the OEM 4.8 exhaust.

4.8is exhaust
it should not be any problem as long as you take it to a competent muffler shop....
here is the old link to what I did http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...usts-4-4i.html here is a link to one being auctioned on ebay.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-X...spagenameZWDVW ..i think when bmw change to the N62 engine in 04 from the previous M62 engine they change the way the pipes aligned . so I just had to cut out a short portion and install a new one to make it fit .. If you like you can also add an X pipe if you want a louder sounding muffler which is what some of the members on this forum has done in the past .. good luck |

May want to check out Billy Boat performance and Ztek. Both make performance exhuast at comparable prices to the stock system or less. ZTek's is like $899 and they claim no resonance or other loudness issues. Can't comment on the BB other than I've heard their other systems and it's a quite deep contolled sound.

The sound clip of the 4.8 sounds pretty damn good. That is a stock 4.8 with the resonator?
As I am a 4.6 guy the 4.8 guys will have to hop in here and give their thoughts of the stock 4.8 exhaust system. |
