Help! I hate my X5.

Hi To any one out there, I am a very unhappy x5 owner and will tell you y.
I need some one to help me because I rely want to love it.

This has been a dream to have an x5 ever since it came on the market.

I got my x5 over a mouth ago and from day 1 it has been one think after another and I am going mad.

My jeep is a
BmwX5 diesel
3 liter sport
Year 2002
225.000km
With most of the extras.
It is a stunning looking animal but it is just so sick!

I live in Bulgaria and there is only one garage here that specializes in BMW but I know I will be taken for a ride if I go there being a foreigner, and my brother in low is a owner of his own garage here and has the whole diagnoses machinery, but dos not have so much experience with BMW x5 but dos in most other BMW’s from old to about 2003.he is rely a good mechanic but he is struggling and needs help finding some of the problems.

1.Ticking noises

There is a loud ticking noises coming from somewhere near the alternator, the noise only happens when the engine is cold and it is lowed, my brother has taken apart most of the stuff around the alternator as well as the alternator and we can not find where the noise is coming from(any one knows this problem I would love any comments if this sounds familiar.

2.Fan belt

When I stop the car every time it makes a noise like the fan belt is old but it is not. It is new. He thinks he knows this problem but any one have any good feed back just so we do not buy a part for nothing.

3.Power loss

This is a rely funny one, if I am on an open road and I floor it I get to 4000reves then I loose power(this happens only some times and if it happens it keeps doing it until I stop and restart the jeep).Note on the diagnostic machine says: “High boast pressure `”

4.Dead battery

My battery went dead on day 2 so I just went to get a new one. Now that is dead too! We have tested the power as would any mechanic when the car is running and it is normal. Yet on the first day of real cold I had not even enough power to open the door (this is now my new battery). Please bear in mind he has already tested the alternator and it seems normal.

5. window

My front passenger window just stops working some times!.
How this started was, one day I was pulling up to my house and stopped the engine. At the same time I stopped the engine, the window went down and it would not go UP until I turned the ignition on to first position. This has happened for one day only (every time I stop the window goes down)the next morning it stopped going down without help, now it will go down but will not go up. Only if I stop the car and put it in first position then it will go up.

I am just guessing, but it sounds like your problems 1,2, and 4 are all related. If the alternator and battery are new, maybe you have the wrong size belt and the battery is not being charged.

Your window regulator is bad and is an easy fix.

Don't know about the loss of power, can be quite a number of things. Good luck.

You have a 2002 with 225 000 km.
It sounds like the guy who owned it before you drove alot.
Take it to a mechanic that knows about diesel cars. He might know something that another mechanic didnt pick up on.
#1 ?
#2 ?
#3 Have them check the seals on your turbo.(Had the same problem on my chev truck)
#4 Is there any aftermarket stereo/alarm/carstarter that might be causing a power drain?

Loss of power on a diesel can only be injector related, right, wrench masters? Wild guess is that some dirty fuel and/or an bad fuel filter is the culprit.

Problem Nr 4.
Sounds like a earth error to me.
It might be some after market mounted stuff, cell phone that's messing your car up.
Check that.

Good luck on it!

You need to find a good BMW mechanic and your problems can be fixed. With the mileage you have without the right mechanic I would sell the car now.

The BMW Diesel engine should be good for a lot more than 225,000km - I would expect 500,000km from a diesel unit in this day and age. Petrol units don't last that long. In any event it doesn't sound like the power unit itself is faulty, just the ancillaries.

One thought about the clicking - does this only occur when the air temp is also particularly cold (5degC or less)? It might be the air conditioning preheater unit. Mine certainly 'clicks' for the first 5 mins and then stops. The exhaust unit is under the car (left hand side on my right hand drive 2005 X5). The unit is mounted on the right side of the engine bay close to the front suspension upper turret as you look in from the front and made by Webasto. As it's exhaust runs down that side, it might fool you - but then again........
