The cleanest solution would be to replace your radio module with one from a 2004 or newer vehicle. This will give you true OEM integration.
Tom G. at EAS or Martin Bishop at bimmernav.com may be able to help you source what you need. Since the 2001 has the round pin connectors, you are going to need some adaptor harnesses to conver to the newer style flat pin connectors that BMW started using in 2002.
