Fixed - Where is boot intake in 4.4i 2004? - Whistling sound

Last night my car suddenly started whistling. I woke up this morning and no it's not a bad dream, the whistling is still there.

Symptoms are a whining / whistling sound that get strongest around 2500 rpm and stops at higher rpms. Sound is still there when car is stationary but reving engine. If I tap the accelarator I can hear the whistle too. All my searches have pointed me to a cracked "boot intake"

More info in this post:http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...ne-coming.html

My question is "Where is the boot intake in a 4.4i 2004"? Under the hood I tried to follow my intake find this mysterious "boot intake" but it looks like I may need to remove the silver plastic metalic cover? Or is the "boot intake" before that? Thanks!

Technically Challenged

number 9 is the boot intake in some models...not mine though
