easy things to check, an alignment (especially the toe-in/toe-out), tire pressure in the tires....good luck.

I feel better......
Just found an old X5 review (on this site) that confirms what I'm feeling. USA TODAY Nov. 19, 1999 "Steering. A bit vague about straight ahead. The test trucks waggled back and forth just on either side of dead center, like a tightrope walker trying to maintain balance". Seems like I really don't have an issue. YAHOO.....

I understand your situation as I also have a 2001 3.0 that seems to act weird when the wheel isn't dead center. However, this has never really bothered me but I do notice it. On the other hand, when I have the wheel dead center, and on a straight level highway, I can release the wheel and it will track straight as an arrow. So go figure...guess it's just a quirk. But don't think you're alone, because I completely understand your situation. Hope this makes you feel a little better.
