auto door lock

Is there any way to make the doors lock/unlock automatically when you start/turn off the car? I know a lot of cars have this feature, why isnt it standard on ours?

Funny ALL my doors unlock when I turn off the vehicle. You might want to check but it should be one of the features (like daytime running lights) that can be activated by the dealer.

The auto-lock is dealer programmable, but didn't know that the auto-unlock was an available feature...hmmm

Yes they are programmable - I have the auto-lock which activates at 15mph - the auto-unlock might not be a good thing in a car-jack enviornment - it's just simple enough to press the button for the unlock

The key can be programmed for the auto lock feature. But to my knowledge, you cannot program an auto unlock feature, and have to do that manually.

That explains the auto-unlock! I guessed you're using the Clifford's auto-lock and unlock feature instead of the OEM. The OEM system only does auto-lock...nothing for auto-Unlock.

Negative! The system is off and it still auto unlocks upon deenergizing the ignition. Checked it both ways, and the Clifford paperwork shows the locks being controlled by vehicle when the system is disengaged.

Then the Clifford paperwork is wrong because the OEM system does NOT get activated nor de-activate with the ignition. I've talked to quite a few dealers and owners and no one had been able to get the auto-unlock feature working on the X5...unless this is a recent addition, which BMW likes to do "quietly".

Good question, to be honest I never noticed or paid attention on my last 2 X's prior to this one. Does anyone have the dealer checklist handy for verification??

Not saying you're wrong here but I would like to know for a fact also.
