Brembo rotors, Axxis pads

Do not get these rotors and pads for your X5. I read the threads and the suggesstions and went ahead and did it. 6 months later, the brakes are no good and I messed up the bushings. The mechanic told me it was a bad move and that only original BMW brakes should be used. Save yourself some money and a lot of trouble, stick with original parts!

care to explain how the brakes messed up your suspension?

i've seen no evidence to support what you claim regarding brembo rotors and axxis pads....

how close are you with the mechanic? are you sure he's not trying to pad the bill?

is this a dealer? some dealers try to find ways to blame aftermarket products for unrelated things breaking down.

maybe you should get a second opinion

Really odd, the Brembo's should be superior to your stock brakes. How could the brakes damage the suspension? Not callin you out on it, it just doesn't sound right.

Let's have some more info on this one!

I have this setup in my 7 series and have been happy with it. No issues whatsoever, longer brake pad life, less brake dust. Suspension is fine. Will be going to this setup in my X once warranty expires.

Please enlighten us on the cause of your problems.

Here's the issue. The brembo rotors are a harder metal compared to the original bmw. This causes more vibration and less absorbtion from the brake pad. The vibration is what can cause damage to the rest of the vehicle (you cannot sense the vibration, but it's there). The mechanic is an independant BMW mechanic who knows his stuff (he's a Russian guy who used to work as an engineer for the BMW plant in the US).
Believe me, I loved the rotors and pads when I first got them, no problems at all. But give it about 6 months, you'll start causing damage, whether you know it or not! Anyway, take it for what it's worth.

I am a 20+ year European parts specialist and even longer doing repair and that is a total load of BS. Both the pads and rotors you used are inferior low cost options to OEM in my opinion and I would not put them on my cars. However harder rotors and/or pads do not cause vibrations that you can not feel and then tear up your suspension, if this was true race cars would be torn to bits very quickly.

My advise is get a new mechanic.
