Brake Bulb Replacement
I need to replace a rear brake bulb. I have removed the acess panel and can see where the rear light housing is. I see where the rectangular black plastic piece is that atttaches to the bulb housing. How do I get this black plastic piece out? The owners manual says twist it counter clockwise like a lever. I have tried and it doesnt want to move and I cannot see how it is supposed to come out. I have also tried twisting it like unscrewing a light bulb but again to no avail. How does this lil sucker come out?? I have had the damn bulb for three weeks now and have not gotten it in yet!!!

The manual has it right. There is a snap indent so the bulb and socket should release without too much pressure. As your turning counter clockwise apply some force toward the housing to help. I would think a better description would be "turn it counter clockwise like a thumbscrew". I do recall some frustration during my first attempt so your not alone.
PS, I just went and checked mine to make sure my advice is correct. Make sure you are turning the bulb socket which is located just below the wire connector. One may mistakenly think the wire connector is the bulb socket. The bulb socket is round, not rectangular! PPS, once you remove the socket check the contacts where it engages the housing, they are known to corrode and burn. Good luck.

I am offically an idiot. I thought the brake bulb was located where the back up light bulb is located. I have been trying to remove the wiring connection for the back up bulb. I realized today the brake bulb is located in the tail light on the side.
The only reason I am even writing this is so others do not make the same mistake. (I doubt anyone else would me such a dumb mistake but just in case!) |

Hey bro, you're not an idiot. We've all been there. I recall a time that I couldn't get a rear tire off due to the e-brake being engaged. A true "Dooohhhh!" moment....
Glad you solved the problem. |
