BMW X5 is on a distinguished road
Red face problem?

So last night I park my car and notice a warning check engine oil level what the hell does that mean?

Did you check the oil level?
Is it in range on teh dipstck?
BMW's burn some oil and need a top up from time to time.

That means check you oil level Check it out and see if it is low. The oil sensor is very sensitive on mine and from time to time I get this message too. The first time it happened I had the oil sensor changed but that did not fix the problem. I do not worry anymore when it shows as long as I know I am not low in oil. It is one of these electronic gremlins that the X is known for.

didnt check the level it was dark and lighting is pretty poor where i park. I'll check when its light out but just wanted to know what gives. it was also cold maybe that can play a role?

No biggie, just check your oil, you are probably a quart low.
