With Powerchip, you don't have to send anything out. You download your X5's current settings via serial cable from OBDII port, and email the bin file to Powerchip. They send you back a custom file with the new values which you then upload to your X5 via OBDII. No downtime for the car. Sounds like this company can do the same thing, right?

For a 4.6is, Powerchip claims around 27hp/20ft lbs torque and other 'driveability' changes.

I am not promoting Powerchip, I am trying to compare what you are bragging about here to Powerchip's offer.

Whoa I never knew that? I literally went with what I saw on the Powerchip website..unless things have changed:

"Your BMW X5 E53 4.4i Valvetronic utilizes a Surface Mount Chip (SMT) – a very sophisticated and powerful memory device which is fitted to many late model (post 1996) vehicles. Because of its complexity, the SMT style chip must be 'flash' programmed in the same way as the dealership (don't worry - we do this for you when we recieve your ECU), similarly to when servicing the vehicle. The ECU itself is very easy to remove, and should be sent overnight to be modified at Powerchip and then return overnight to you (we use FedEx Priority Overnight Service). Detailed instructions (including photos) are also provided to ensure the ECU can be removed easily from the vehicle. Once complete, and re-installed into the vehicle, you are back on the road to enjoy your enhanced performance – as soon as possible."

Anyway, P-chip advertises gains for $990. The highest price (and most common price, lol) in the email I got from SI is $649 if that helps any. I guess that's not including the overnight cost for the us :\ but still.

Sounds like for the valvetronic models, the pricing is much better with the one you went with. For the 4.6's, the price seems to be about the same.

Looking forward to hearing more about it.

Although this is what the website says, they told me over the phone that you don't need to send them the ECU, but you can if you would like to. This was quite a while ago so I don't know if that has changed. I didn't install this either as I feel the price is way too high....

Here are Powerchip's claims for the X5 4.4i Valvetronic with 93 Octane. That's an increase of 18HP/19TQ. Is the $649 quote for the PowerchipGold93?

What/where do I find the part to take off to send to these guys for upgrade? What happens when my 4.8is goes in to service? Does BMW computers send up a red flag saying things are out of whack or anything? Don't want to void my warranty. My truck has less than 5k miles on it.

Should we contact them directly (if so, who is the best contact and what is their info?) or work thru you?

Will the gains mean lower gas mileage?
