Almost about to buy a new 2006 4.8is

Well I found a dealer near me that had the last new 2006 4.8is, my main dealer said they were hard to find and would not move much on the price for a "is". So the one I found is a family owned dealer, salespeople all been there for years, nice and honest to me.

Well they start it good right off the bat, $9k+ off sticker, have a Black Sapphire on the floor with 30miles on it Have to say that Black color is really cool, much nicer than Jet Black. So we take out, Salesman says it has sat on the floor for months, and I turn it on, check engine light is on, we go down the road, I punch it, and it hesitates for a second, not giving me 100% Beast power like I expected. The salesman said that can happen to a car that has sat on the floor for so long, and on Friday it will be checked on. Other than that I really liked the vehicle, bigger inside than I thought.

My problem is getting rid of my Corvette, the trade will put my upside on it a little bit, will decide this weekend, go back Fri/Sat ?

Good luck with your search, but you may want to think about what you are actually looking for - Be warned, the '06 X5 is setup for mileage, so it "hesitates" before metering out the gas - my '06 (factory new April) gets over 21mpg hwy and easily 17-18 around town - now if you want drag racing performance, you will have to go aftermarket additions - I also have a '01 4.4 sport to which I added a Dinan S2 upgrade (no turbo, everything else) - Now THAT X5 scoots! - But mileage is 18-19 hwy and it really drops around town because I love the roar off the line (12-15) - So be aware of what you are looking for, so you know up front what you are getting - Good Luck

$9k off sounds like a great deal - less than I paid for my '04 4.4! Just make sure all the "kinks" are taken care of to your satisfaction before you take delivery....

IMHO $9K off is a good starting point. 9% minus another 4K off MSRP should work. The dealer will break even but eat the floor plan (interest) costs.

You may do better selling the Vette to a specialty dealer. I had great success selling to CarMax, do you have one in your area?

I would not be concerned about the check engine light but would want to know the code before it's cleared. Could be emissions related from brief engine starts.

Remember it's a new engine that will feel stronger over time.

The 4.8 will drive better the more it's actually "driven." There is a learning curve that the car's computer will go through to adapt to your driving style. It probably doesn't have as much off the line grunt as your vette, but then is is a much heavier vehicle. But there is still plenty of power to spare. I love my 4.8. It was last '06 Ti-silver that I could find, and the dealer was not moving much on the price. $9K off MSRP is a pretty good deal if you can get it.

I don't care what your dealer has told you a new old style X5 is going to loose much more than say a MY04 plate or backwards.

I would think careful before purchasing the car unless you intend to hold on to the car for a good few years.

with new ones coming out,
06 4.8 is not for everyone, market is very select, there's only a certain number of high performance buyers out there, dealer will have tough time moving the vehicle, as depreciation will hit it big time

now if you plan on keeing it a few good years then ya it's a good deal, but if you don't plan on keeping it long term then i'd look at something else maybe even new 07 model

it all depends on what YOU want and what your budget is

an alternative, you could get a 04 4.4 sport, that'll be pretty close to performance of the 4.8, has facelift, all features etc. for what half price? with that much leftover in your pocket you could do any mod you like and still have lots of dough left
