whining/squeaking noise on a cold start

Guys,

I was wondering if you guys heard this squeaking noise when I start my x in the morning. Does this mean my timing belt is loose or something else.

Need advice...

Thanks

More likely a fan belt.

had this same problem when i had an eclipse. spoke with a mechanic and showed him and he actually heard the noise. his suggestion was to rub a candle on the fan belt so it coats it not overdoing it.

it actually worked. i am not sure if it is adviceable to do on a BMW. as a matter of fact, i too am having this problem same as yours BING...

did you ever get this fixed?

I have never heard the candle trick, might have to try it. The noise is probably the rollers rather than the belt is this case. New rollers will solve this, dont get talked into tensioners, you only need rollers, about 20 bucks each 2 center mount and one offset. I think there was a thread on someone else having this problem recently.

The candle trick probably works similarily to using belt-dressing..

doesn't sound expensive for the parts...but how much for the labor at the dealer?

Takes about 1.5 hours for all 3 on a 3.0 engine. I suspect the dealer will get a full 2.0 hours for the job. They will make a big deal out of removing the fan and fan shroud, they can probaby stretch that to 1.0 hours alone.

Torx head bolts hold on the rollers, remove the radiator cover remove the fan (reverse threaded) and fan shroud (lifts out nothing connecting on the bottom) and you will be looking right at them. Plenty-O-Room to get things done.

11 28 1 748 130 for the offset x 1
11 28 1 748 131 center mount x 2
You might as well toss a new belt on since you have to take it off
