Which one? I replaced my drivers side front unit a few months back. I had picked up a brand new unit on eBay a few years back for $5 because the price was right and it has been sitting gathering dust since then. Boy was I glad I had it on hand when I needed it.

As for the DIY, you pretty much need to follow to same steps as changing the window regulator in order to gain access to the unit.

I do not want to hijack your thread but since we are talking about door lock actuators I have a question....When a door lock actuator goes bad does it just stop working or does it start by working erratically first. I am asking because this is what is happening on the my daughter's 323. When it is cold 2 of the door lock stop working.

It can happen both ways. It can become "lazy" and only work periodically, or it can just all of a sudden stop working altogether.

My X5 was in for the same thing. They wanted $500. The part is about $100 and I found some thread on the forum on how to replace it. Look on the home page for removing the door panel...takes about 15 minutes and then replace the actuator. No more than an hour I think.
