Brake Bulb Replacement

I have read the owners manual, searched on this topic and even posted in another thread but I cannot get my question answered.

I need to replace a rear brake bulb. I have removed the acess panel and can see where the rear light housing is. I see where the rectangular black plastic piece is that atttaches to the bulb housing. How do I get this black plastic piece out? The owners manual says twist it counter clockwise like a lever. I have tried and it doesnt want to move and I cannot see how it is supposed to come out. I have also tried twisting it like unscrewing a light bulb but again to no avail.

How does this lil sucker come out?? I have had the damn bulb for three weeks now and have not gotten it in yet!!!
