is that a fair price? sounds a bit too much for just the flares

Yea, I almost spit my food out when I heard the price from the dealer. Not exactly cheap, no. I havn't taken a good look but I believe it is a crap load of plastic as I would imagine that the pieces are the whole wheel well ,though I could be wrong, I will check later today when I go down to my garage (a bit hung over right now). I can check on the prices though my friend if you would like.

BTW. If any of you want brand new OEM BMW parts at a discount, let me know.

I did look and it appears that it is 4, 6, 8, or 12 pieces and not the whole wheel well. I am guessing 6 pieces from comparing pictures of the 4.4 and the 4.8., two for the back and one for the front.

I must say now that I have taken a closer look that I am not sure whether or not I will like them on my car. They look a bit tacky like an afterthought the way that they blend in with the front bumper wheel trim and in the rear the side runner board. Case in point: "http://www.bmwarchiv.de/images/45-3-bmw-x5-48is-bmw-e53-org.jpg" You have to copy and paste the url as it seems to redirect. I will post pics here after I get mine installed and let you be the judge.

You need like a session cookie or something to access the image, so paste it once into your browser, you'll get the above image, then paste it again.

I might get flamed for this, but am I the only one who likes the mud flaps on the rear?

I'm betting in my snowy/rocky climate the mud laps would save the paint on my rear lower bumper spoiler tho.
