Need Help. Check Engine light

I purchased my 2001 X5 NOT TO LONG AGO. Its 3.0, i keep check the car for codes and its P0344, I know it has something to do with camangel something. Not sure what it could be or if any one has encountered this problem before and has a solution.

Once in a while also while i'm driving in a low gear low rpm the car will shut off. Wierd. i thought perhaps it was the fuel i was using. regular so i put super and i have since and still it does. I read a code of and it said it misfires in band 2. Do you think i need plugs? Help anyone.

It's your intake cam sensor. It's a common problem with the M54 engine. I just changed mine on my 330xi.

DIY is here.

so where is that located and how much do you think it will cost. DO you think that has to do with the misfiring in chamber 2

The DIY link I posted above has pictures showing the location and procedure. Call the dealers in your area for a price on the part. Ask for an intake pulse generator 12147539165. You can check some online parts suppliers as well but I bought mine at the dealer for less (surprise!).

My 330xi was throwing a BMW code 65 which maps to P0340. You got a P0344 which doesn't correspond to a BMW code that I could find. That's the problem with generic OBD readers. I think P0344 may be your code readers interpretation of the BMW code 65.

I was getting "secondary air flow low" codes at the same time but they never came back after I replaced the sensor so I assumed they were a side effect of the faulty sensor. It's conceivable that your other codes are also side effects. I recommend you replace the sensor first to see if the other codes go away. You could also pull one of the plugs for inspection if you suspect they've never been changed.

FYI, you can look up part numbers for your X5 here.
