Accessing the service/diagnostic modes on OBC....

I reset the oil service warning by pressing the odometer reset pin in and truning the ket to position 1. All kinds of tests came up, and I found the oil reset and performed it. I noticed tons of modes to play with but have no idea what they represent. I did hit the gauge test which lights up everything on the gauge cluster and makes the gauges go full on then back to zero. Too cool.

Anyone have a glossary for the various tests?

Did a simple search here and found it on our forum. I also remembered an E46 list and found it again, and it covers the E__ OBC.I am going out to play and see if I can get the rest to function!

1. Hold Trip Reset while turning ignition key to on position
2. OBC should show "Test"
3. Use Trip Reset to select function 19.0 that unlocks all the features
3. Wait for display to show "Off"
4. Depress Trip Reset for 1/4 second and release it
5. With no delay press Trip Reset several times to select one of the following function s

A brief follow up. All the tests work. You have to enable test 19 first and then go back to tests 4-21.
Fairly meaningless crap but cool nonetheless.

I find the engine coolant temp pretty useful when I plan to go out for a performance run. The analog temp gauge is buffered and therefore the engine isn't really "fully" warmed up even though the needle might say so. In addition, I believe the digital road speed (in km/h) corrects for the known analog speedo error; the comp says 126 km/h even though the needle shows 130.

And cuz I have an X3, the instant fuel consumption readout is really neat. Unfortuantely, I lack the needle/gauge for that one.......I find it really entertaining and cool on the other BMWs

Changed oil at 48.9K miles. Indicator is on last bar. Tried to set engine oil reset as per instructions on this website. However, when I pushed the button, the reset did not flash. Says in website that if there is no flash, minimum consumption value has not been met. What does this mean? Should I wait to reset light?

Can someone please clarify how to access the hidden menu without reseting the oil counter? I'd like to have some fun looking at those fuel-comsumption et all, but I'd rather not touch the oil counter as it's a leased car and everything.

So, in simple steps:
- turn key to 0
- press the reset button on the odometer
- turn key to 1
- From this page I assume that reset is press-and-hold
- From this thread I assume quick press (without holding) changes the menus.

So, the only key used is the reset on the odometer, right? Or will the button on the blinking indicators next to the wheel also work?
