Question Cai On 4.6is

Ok guys I have been looking at doing this install as a DIY to my own design. I have got a few questions though that have been asked before but I dont think a complete answer was obtained.

First as some will know the 4.6 stock airbox has a few extra items and pipes running to and from it. One is the little plenium system that seems to open and close, see pics that broknlgs24 provided on another thread.

I'm not to worried about this as my install will retail the unit. The next is the pipe that runs to the air pump that is apparantly only on the 4.6

Some mentioned removing this, others said they retained it, but it should be filtered or sealed. But I was looking at my stock airbox and this pipe is not sealed on it, although it is filtered as its attached to the lid of the airbox and not to the bottom. So can someone with a 4.6 and CAI system tell me what they did??

Ok no answers so far but I think I have worked out the way to retain the pipe. The pipe on the BMW system is registered as SUCTION pipe so therefore it sucks filtered air into the pump and from the pump it goes into the engine. I have all the parts for my DIY install of my own CAI system for a 4.6 to which I will post soon.

Thanks will hopeful have the install done soon. The pipe in question if anyone is interested is NO:6 on the diagram on the link. I'm doing my conversion in a way that all the original items in the 4.6 stock airbox are retained and fully reversable if ever required to do so.

Hi, I have done an install that I have been running with for a few couple of months now. I havent got around to making my own cai box/housing so currently just using the original cai and my mod. I'll get some pics up shortly, but keep in mind I havent finished yet.

What is the mod you did to your stock airbox? I am in the midst of trying to decide which CAI to go with. I have a Dinan in the garage I am thinking of modifying to make it a true cold air intake. That or get the AFE intake.

It sure seems like the stock air intake is not too bad of a design. Have you tried a K&N air filter in yours yet?

Ok here is a quick look at my mod, as I mentioned not totally complete yet as I'm still working on it. As it stands at present, the X drives just perfect, a slight increase in accelerator response, an increase in sound (more deep and throaty) and apart from that everything is as normal. Forgive the pics as the were taken quite late tonite.
