How'd I Hit 160mph In My 4.4?

is my speedometer really that off? i had the needle burried...and yes..if truley needed i have pics to prove it....but i was under the impression that the gov would hit atleast by 130-140....? when i check my "average speed" while on cruise control..my speed is usually about 4-6mph off...but would be it THAT off at that speed?

speedo's are extrapolated from a number of things: gear, final gear, wheel size, tire size, etc etc etc... so they are always off.. they are on average about 5-7% optimistic in the normal ranges(overshoot) and get worst at the higher extremes.

get a gps tracking device to truly capture your speed...

fwiw here's one that is truly optimistic...

otherwise basically anywhere on 580 you should be able to top out almost any vehicle....i topped out my twin turbo 300zx at 202mph (aftermarket speedometer, and heavily modded engine) right there also...

i used to have video of me doing 202mph in the 300zx, and 218mph in a friends twin turbo lambourghini, but "things" happened where my computer was taken by authorities...and i still have not gotten it back.

the 218 speed was reached on I5 though, right after 580...

5% error means 60 is 152 actual - top end is 155 or 168 depending where you look

I assume this was on a track, Bonneville salt flats, or a completely deserted road where you weren't endangering anyone but yourself

Bonneville 130(mph) club only requires a helmet and a fire extinquisher

the 150 club requires helmet, fire extinquisher, fire retardent suit, ROLLBAR, 4/5-pt seatbelt, 'z' rated tires

When and where did you have your X5 setup?

that was my 1/4 mile speed...
so is there NO govner speed on the X5? i assume it would be set around 135-140'ish.... i have no modifications done.....

this was done on a completely deserted region, yes, at about 3am, so no other vehicle was ever even in sight...
