Thumbs up Repair update

Eastside Bavarian (Issaquah Washington) did my service. They found that the air flow boot between the MAF and TB was not fully seated and allowing air in. Apparently there's a BMW Service Bulletin on this too. Its #SI B 13 50 02 under Fuel Systems, logged back in Nov 2002. It calls for Warranty Replacement on both the 4.4 and 4.6 motors. The original boot was not well designed and I guess got soft when hot and would deform to allow the air leakage. And then there's the other side regarding service when the boot was touched that resulted in that they didn't properly reseat and reseal it. Anyway, I had it replaced and now all is well! WooHoo!
They told me I bought a good running rig that's been well taken care of and is in great shape. Music to my ears.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

the x5 (or Beast, as I call it), is a great running vehicle, with the caveat that i have never heard of any car having so much trouble.

thankfully, i've never had major problems with the 2001 x5 4.4, except for a loss of power en route to canada early when i first acquired it. admittedly, there have been about a million minor problems (door locks, trunk lid latch, OBC display, etc. etc.) but there's something about it, when it's running well on an open stretch of road that makes me still love it.

NWX5-

Thanks for posting this. I have the same problem. I'm just out of my CPO warranty so I'm gonna try and fix this myself. Is this hard to find? I would imagine its easy but I have to ask. This was also a problem with my Landcruiser.....

Cheers!
Mark
