NWX5 is on a distinguished road
Newbie, the good and the bad

Hello. My wife and I are proud new owners of a 2000 X5 4.4. It looks like new and drives like a dream. That is except when coming to a stop from about 30+mph with everything up to normal operating temp, the tranny downshifts quite abruptly and sometimes causes the engine to stall!
I find it hard to believe that this beautiful running engine and seamless shifting tranny conspire to do such a nasty deed, especially when downshifting is so transparent in less fancy automatics. I have seen mention of these 2 anomolies on this forum - abrupt downshifting, stalling coming to a stop - but can't say for sure that any positive fixes were identified in followups. Has anyone experienced both of these and had it fixed? I'm taking it in for service tomorrow and hope to get 'er done for good, but still would like to confirm with the forum what's been the trick for others.

We have 19"s and the stock Turanzas. I was a little worried last week during our snowstorm, but was impressed with the Xs capabilites. I did get a little sideways going down an icy slope, then remembered the magic button. Hill Descent Control is worth its weight in gold!

This is a good website. Thanks.

- Glenn
