Brake-force display

I was reading the 2005 X5 owners manual online, and I saw that it had the brake force display where more lights turn on if you hit the brakes harder. How long has this feature been on the X5?

My '04 built in September of '04 has it, so at least since then.

I guess it's from when they facelifted it on, which would make sense.

It was in the manual as early as 2002, but I think it was an '04+ feature. Can anyone confirm?

Actually, came out in the model year 2003 for the E53 X5 in the U.S.

I actually saw one in action and it must have been a 2003 because it was a pre-facelifted X5 (no angel eyes).

This feature has been around since 02. It's called adaptive brake lights. The first stage is regular brake lights. The second stage activates when the ABS pump kicks in. All of the tail lights light up with the brake lights.............Phil

The manual for 2002 says it's called Adaptive Brake Light, but in the 2003 Product Catalog/Brochure, it says "...new for 2003 is the Adaptive Brake Light...".
Do you have MY02 or MY03?

Tito, Ive got an 02 and the feature works great!
Maybe it was exclusive to the 02 4.6is and added to other models in 03.

My 2002 also has the "Adaptive Brake Light" - it says so in the manual...

Never cared to somehow prove it to myself, but the manual says I have it supposedly...
