Indiana Police Clock Teen at 142 Mph
The Associated Press
Tuesday, December 12, 2006; 4:15 PM

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- A teenager charged with driving 142 mph along a four-lane divided highway said he was speeding home so his parents wouldn't be mad at him for being late, police said.

Brandon D. Raap, 16, faces speeding and misdemeanor reckless driving charges and could have his license suspended, police said.

Researchers say greenhouse gases are cooling the thermosphere, where spacecraft including the international space station, above, orbit. The shift could keep thousands of pieces of unwanted space junk from falling and burning up. (NASA)

Porter County sheriff's deputies stopped Raap along a rural stretch of U.S. 30 at 12:40 a.m. Saturday after a radar gun clocked his 2004 Subaru Impreza going almost 90 mph faster than the posted 55 mph limit, police said.

It might be the fastest speed ever recorded on the northwestern Indiana county's roads, said Porter County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Tim Emmons.

"Most people's cars won't go that fast," he said.

Raap told police he was late getting home and didn't want his parents to be angry, Deputy John Brubaker said in his report. Raap told Brubaker he didn't have a curfew but is usually home by midnight.

I always wanted to drive a WRX but never got around to it. For the $$, seems like a helluva fun car...

What's a prodrive enhancement? Did you like the car despite the interior?

I liked the car but you certainly noticed the Turdo Lag it was fast but I like a good interior and for me the interior is a big let down.

I got it retrimed in Bridge of Weir leather to try and make me want to keep it but you know when you clode the door you want to hear a thud but it was more a ding with the Scooby

I test drove the new STi earlier this year and really didn't like the feel of it, it feels way too light for how fast you're able to go. I think I wanted a more grounded feeling, not like I was about to go airborne. But it was a lot of fun to drive, handles pretty well and the jump from 2nd to 3rd gear was a blast.
The X is a great speeding vehicle though. I was driving back to school from Denver and hit 130 in Utah, still handled perfectly. Why anyone would consider getting anything other that a Bimmer is beyond me...

I'm not considering it. The article was funny in that here's a kid who was trying to stay out of trouble by driving so fast. It really shows that the thinking process of some people is a little crazy.

Maybe his parents are hardasses. Although he said he doesn't have a curfew, either way it seems like he might lose his license.

That excuse actually worked to get me out of a ticket once. I claimed I was supposed to be home at 4:30, I was about 15 min from home, and it was about 4:20. I was only doing 46 in a 30 though... Significantly less than his 90+mph over.
