If you have the 4.4 you will find the box in the engine compartment on the left side under the hood vent.

I had the very same thing happen. Water got in to the electronics box under the hood. The DME (eng controler) and the AGC (trans controler) are both in the box. The DME and AGC are very durable and SHOULDN'T need to be replaced. Pull them both out of the box and check for water, especially in the connectors. I bent the tabs out of the way on my AGC and opened the box and used a hair dryer (carefully) to dry it out. Also used the hair dryer to dry out the DME and the Eng electronics box.

You'll also need to seal the electronics box. Pull all the rubber gromments the wiring runs through from their slots in the box. Apply a liberal amount of RTV in the slots. Replace the grommets. Some RTV should sqeeze out. With the lid to the box in hand and up side down you'll see the groove that is supposed to seal the lid to the box. It's about 1/8" wide. Fill that groove with RTV also. That won't take much RTV. When you put the lid back on the box, make sure you get all four hinges together properly.

Merry Christmas

Also, your PEAK tool plugs into the OBDII plug above your left shin. You'll have to use the adapter. The tool is round the OBDII is trapazoid shaped. If the water is the problem after you dry everything off the code should (no garrantee) go away.

The E-box is right where the passenger side (LH drive) hinge for the hood mounts. It's a little bigger than a bread box. To get it open:
1. Open hood.
2. Pull then cover off the cabin air inlet. The plastic piece that runs the width of the base of the windshield. It has a bunch of 1/4 turn fasteners.
3. Under that cover you'll see an air defector. The passenger side (LH drive) outer most part lifts out. Straight up. This is to allow you to get into the box.
4. Unscrew the four 5mm allen head screws and urine (your in).

well pulled the cover off....doesnt look wet at all. (dunno if it dried out overnite)
checked the codes (correctly this time) = no codes
Drove around the block. no errors. Tried normal mode, S mode, and also running thru the manual gears...
I'm gonna go for a longer drive later on to test it out. If the error comes back on, i'll be at the dealer tomorrow...else i'll cancel my appt.

so fair assumption that some electronics did get wet?

again thanks for the valuable information...y'all have a merry xmas!!!

You need to look at the connections. Pull the connectors of the boxes and look into the connectors. If you see any water or stains in the connections on the DME or the AGC you have had water in the box.

If it happened once it will probaly happen again.
