Brand New BMW X5 3.0d Futura, Italy

Hi, I picked up my new BMW X5 22 / 12 / 2006. Had the Sat/nav programed so it has English and not Italian also the Key reprogrammed.
Very happy with the car until this morning when I find that the front indicator bulb has gone. I call the garage and the tell me I have to make a appointment because it's not just a case of changing a lamp, they have got to remove the front bumper to get at the lamp to change it, + or - 1.5 hrs work. Somebody tell me this is not true 19 bolts and screws and remove the front bumper to change a lamp??????? I've always been of the opinion that if it has to be taken apart it never goes back the same
way, never quite fits as well, all this on a 7 day old top of the range BMW X5. No wonder EUROPE is in the S--T. Never had this problem with my Lexus RX300

I have removed the 4 bolts but with the headlamp washers you can only bring the lamp assembly forword enough to change all lamp's except the indicator lamp. looks like it's back to procedure on removing the front bumper cover.

Thanks for your help. smarttask

On the 2004's there is no longer the plastic trim piece between the bumper and headlight that snaps out to reveal the two lower bolts. Rather, in addition to removing the two nuts on top you also need to remove two more nuts that are partially hidden on the inside.

For example, on the left headlight one of the nuts is located slightly on the right of the back of the high beam cover. The other one is located exactly at the back of the low beam cover. Once you remove all four nuts then you should be able to slide the entire headlight unit out far enough to change the bulbs.

If you want to remove the entire assembly and have the headlamp washers then you may need to follow the
procedure on removing the front bumper cover.

Note that the two lower hidden nuts are not painted black like the two nuts at the top, so look for two nuts that are simply in the color of steel.

One bulb goes bad and your ragging on all of Germany? Overreact much?

Have the light fixed by the dealer and call it a day. And if you really want headlamps that are easy to change, go with Porsche. In my 996 the headlamps detached from the car with a turn of a hex wrench and you can take the light anywhere you want to fix it.

Sometimes bulbs do go bad straight away. Don't knock the whole car just because of a bulb - that's a bit too strong. Yes I understand you're disappointed but let's get it in perspective.

You can buy a new lamp for home and it only lasts five mins. S**t happens, and it can happen to anyone.

I've had mine 22 months now and had two windscreens at $1400 each so a new turn lamp is nothing to worry about really. It takes 6 hours to change the screen.

By the way, welcome to the world of the X5.

It may just be the connections that are attached to the bulb. it was that in mine.
