Question BMW master Key

I just got a Master Key from the Dealer. But..

the key when put in the lock unlocks and locks the car.
The Key does not start the car
and the remote does not unlock or lock the car.

Has anyone seen this problem before.
Also would any BMW key unlock my vehicle ( Stupid question but I had to ask with the symptoms I am seeing)
Does it just needs to be programmed.

Thanks

Something is wrong with the key code transmitter. In order to start the car, your key must match a rolling code set by the vehicle's anti-theft system.

Leave the new key in the ignition for 30 seconds with the key on in position 2. If after that the key will still not start the vehicle then the new key is defective. Of course this is assuming that you do have another key that works without any problems.

it could be that a sensor is out. I just had that problem and had a sensor replaced.

what do you mean by "master key"? did you just get a new key cut for YOUR X or do you really mean a "master" as in it will work with any X?

Ok.. I only got a Valet key when I first bought the X5. In the Manual I believe they refer to the two main keys that remotley lock and unlock the car are the master keys.

So that being said I went to BMW and got another key The master key for the vehicle made.
Later on the delear where I bought the X5 called me and said the had the master key, so I picked it up. The only problem was it only unlocked & locked the car when inserted into the key lock and it wouldn't start the car.
