Has anyone here done any runs with their X5 that has had modifications? Specifically I am interested in anyone who has a 4.6 that has:
From what I have read on here the Dinan S3 with 450 hp is estimated to be a low 5 second SUV (yea, I know but I hate "SAV"!!). So perhaps 45hp will only gain a few tenths of a second???? The cost of these items with no installation would be about $2,650 (chip $600, exhaust $1,400, CAI $650) This would be similat to the Dinan S1 package without the throttle body & trans software (and the strut bar and floor mats!). Anyone out there with a S1 package with 0 - 60 times? Curious why Dinan does not give 0 - 60 times. |

Half a second may be optimistic. My guess would be half that. Now in the quarter mile, I think you'd see a difference.
That is lot of cash for a modest boost. Spend a few more grand on a bike and get 2 second 0-60 times

Sold my modified 98 CBR 900RR last year! 0 - 60 in the 3 second range! Too damn dangerous!!

Yep you are right. Too much fun but too dangerous.
I am considering some performance mods too but have not decided on anything yet. It costs too much to get a big performance boost with this vehicle. Let us know what you end up with. |

Honestly don't expect too much with a CAI, a preset tune chip and an exhuast. Many advertisers claim huge gains with these products but it isn't substantial. Truth: CAI 2-3bhp, tune 5bhp, exhaust 5bhp to the wheels. I personally find that the best bang for your buck in terms of bhp gain would be larger headers (long tubes) and then a custom tune specifically for your modifications. I've personally seen the gains associated with these mods on multiple vehicles. I'd say expect two tenths is what you'd see. I hate how BMW mods are so expensive, I'd save that money for FI. Thats what I did, just my 2 cents.

BMW exhausts are very good and the software is pretty much optimized. Like ESS said, just a few HP from software. There have been some decent gains from intakes on BMW's, maybe 10-12HP, but that's about it. I would believe all of Dinan's claimed output.
