Hi, pleased your back on the road.

I spent months at the dealers, they swapped three batteries over!!They ran all sorts of diagnostic checks and came up with nothing wrong.

It did sort it, albeit briefly, I've got to say the X5 electrical side leaves a lot to be desired.

it does indeed, My battery has been changed at the last service, and replaced under warranty by my bmw dealer, this was not so long ago, it is a BMW battery, so maybe I have a battery leakage again...

I'll keep an eye on it.

I also have an 02 4.6is....it does the same thing. Mine will actually do nothing when I turn the key to the start position, and will continue not to work until finally it will click and start. Sometimes I have to turn the key on to start multiple times to get the starter to engage.

Another symptom of mine is some starts are really fast (starter motor), but about every 4th start will sound like the relay is not allowing full voltage to the starter, making for a slower than normal turn over speed....when this happens, I also get an odd sound out of the interior speaker for the key in ignition/lights on annunciator.

wondering if anyone else has this symptom?

Thanks.

I have had the fast spin only a few times in the time I have had x5 and the funny click from speakers too, but i find the click was due to low battery charge....

I have been the happy owner of a 02 X5 for a bit more than 3 years now...

Not many problems with it, once the final stage resistor, once the drivers door handle which broke, a battery leak and also the tyres presure check system, most as the car was nearly new...

Since I had the car, it would not always start the first time, it would do a click, then nothing.. I would turn the key once again and the car usually started without a problem

This morning it did click, as it sometimes does... then nothing, tried again, nothing, tried again nothing... click, click, click. I checked the battery, and it is not too bad, just under 12V..

I have not checked something else, would have liked to have your views or ideas first...

Thanks

Charles
You already found the problem. Your battery is DEAD. Either charge it or get a new battery. How old is the battery?

You also found the problem. You need a new ignition switch. Just do a Google search on how to replace the ignition switch on a BMW or take it in.
