Surging Idle

Last night on the way to dinner with the wife, I noticed that when stoped at a stoplight, the RPM's surged from 600-900RPM. It happened on the way there and again on the way home. I have an '06 4.4 w/ 23K on the clock. Before I take it to the dealer so they can sit on it a week, only to tell me all is normal, does anybody have any ideas as to what this might be? It was 30 degrees out last night here in SoCal, but I have never noticed it before when we go to the mountain where it is just as cold.

Seems to new for that though.
Maybe idle control valve...

No, its not normal. I agree it could be the TB or the IAC, or several other causes. Take it in, and see what the Tech finds. It should not be that big of a deal or a long fix.

I have a Dinan TB. I hope that didn't cause anything. I take mine to Pacific BMW in Glendale, but they aren't a Dinan Authorized dealer. Any suggesions on a good Dinan authorized dealer in the Los Angeles?

Incidently Sterling. How did that Dinan TB change your performance?
Any info would be helpful. Let us know about the outcome.

I have the TB, CAI, and the exhaust. Seems faster, but I have no dyno or times to compare to.

I agree it could be the throttle body or idle control valve.

I'd also look for a vacuum leak somewhere near the TB. You can find it by spraying brake cleaner around the various vacuum lines while the car is idling.

I had this problem with my CRX for months and couldn't figure it out - it was a bad coolant temp sensor which was giving the IACV fits.

Good luck.
