it's VERY common. on the 4.4 V8 engines in the X5, 540 and 740. google 'bmw valley cover pan' you'll see lots of info.

all that $$$$ to replace a $50 part. sigh.

I had a leak in my coolent tank. It was going to cost $230 to get the new top up tank, so bmw patched up the leak with this special powder and its fixed.

EDIT: The patch didnt work, purchased a new coolent tank from ebay and installed it, good as new

The dealer will cover all parts including hoses under the warranty but I have to pay for the labor cost, $900.00.

It will takes 7.5 to 8 hrs. works, It's good I noticed now before the warranty expires.

I was just wondering, if this is a common problem with 4.4 x5, did anybody think that this might be a subject for a recall. my x5 is 2002 and has only 108,645 km on it.

Well my tank got a split in it but i purchased one from ebay and installed it, now its good as new
