X5 rear emblem

We just recently purchased our 2003 X5 and we noticed that the rear X5 emblem is set higher on the tailgate than all other models including other 2003 models. All other models have the X5 emblem at the same height as the BMW emblem. Does anyone know if this was done in the factory or did the previous owner take it upon his self to move it??

Thank you!!

My guessed is that it probably fell off and the previous owner put it back on. Or worst yet, the car may be repainted (for whatever reasons) and the emblem was not installed properly after the re-spray. My suspicion would be on the latter.

Unfortunately, I agree. The body shop put emblems back on incorrectly on a Jeep I had.

Thanks for your reply. I bet it was taken off and reapplied incorrectly. It had a small scratch on the tailgate that the dealer had painted before we purchased. Do you think the spot where they reapplied it would need to be repainted if it was taken off and put in the correct location?

When it happened to me I just left it alone.

That explains it. The body shop may have clear-coat the entire tailgate to color match it. Thus, your emblem was removed and re-installed.

Take a pic and let's see how off it is. Most people probably won't even notice.

when my saab convertible went into the dealer, it came back missing the badge on the hood. I still don't have it.
All sorts of strange things can happen when the car is out of your sight.
